Important Information
Immediately after our newsletter of 23 May 2008, I received information that our recognition of the Gohar-e Parsian school in Iran might fall under prohibitions outlined by US law. I was not aware of the extent of the restrictions of this law before offering ISG recognition of their student’s work. I will say that the relationship between the ISG and the Gohar-e Parsian has been restricted to the mutual sharing of information regarding gemology. We have never engaged in any business or financial transactions with their school, and all contacts have been strictly limited to information sharing and mutual recognition of credentials as we do with other gemological schools around the world. But I do not want to ever put the future of the ISG in jeopardy by even the appearance of any impropriety. As such:
The International School of Gemology retracts and withdraws our recognition of the Gohar-e Parsian in Tehran , Iran .
We have withdrawn and voided the ISG title recognition certificates provided to the students of Gohar-e Parsian.
And we sever all ties with the school and/or anyone involved with the school.
Until or unless such time that the United States government lifts these restrictions we will have no further contact with anyone connected to this school, or with any other gemology school located in any country that carries US government restrictions on trade.
