About the International School of Gemology

The International School of Gemology was founded in 2004 by Robert James, FGA, GG, after serving as an Allied Teaching Center of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain since June of 2000. Mr. James was a tutor for the Gem-A FGA program, serving as educator for the world’s oldest and more respected gemology education organization. From 2014 – 2019 the ISG became a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Education Organization under the name of the Insurance Institute of Jewelry Appraisal. However, in late 2019 it was decided to return to our roots as a gemology based education organization with the ability to provide quality education around the world, and not just centered in the United States. As a result the ISG was relaunched under its original structure in December, 2019.

As your lead instructor, Robert James FGA, GG, also holds the world’s highest credentials in the field of gemology. He is a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (see FGA Diploma at left). He holds additional gemological titles of Graduate Gemologist, Gemological Institute of America, and formally a Certified Gemologist of the American Gem Society, Mr. James brings the world’s highest qualifications to provide you with highly professional gemology training as part of your education as a certified jewelry appraiser.

With our world-wide community of jewelry appraisers, gemologists, insurance professionals and more, the IIJA is uniquely qualified to provide you with the highest quality of jewelry appraisal education, as well as after-graduation support to help you become as successful as possible.

As a Property and Casualty Insurance Adjuster, licensed by the Texas Department of Insurance License #1300433, Mr. James has over 14 years of experience handling high value insurance claims in the United States and Europe through the Jewelry Adjuster insurance adjusting firm. This is the only jewelry specific insurance claims adjusting firm in the United Stated that devotes 100% of their efforts to assisting with jewelry related insurance claims of all levels. By Midwest Reciprocity Agreement, Mr. James professional license is recognized across the US, and has been recognized around the world.

Additionally, Mr. James works with other state-licensed insurance professionals to develop insurance appraisal courses. These professionals hold the titles of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Property and Casualty Adjuster, and Claims Litigation Manager. We are the only jewelry appraisal training organization to offer these high credentials and licenses to our students.

We look forward to working with you to follow your dream of becoming a professional jewelry appraiser, gemologist, gem dealer and more!
